The Implementation of Tazkiyat al-Nafs as a Madrasah Principal's Policy: A Philosophical Analysis from Imam Al-Ghazali's Perspective at MA Al Falah Jatilawang

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of Tazkiyatun Nafs as implemented in the policy of the madrasah principal in shaping the spiritual character and discipline of students. The research employs a qualitative approach with an instrumental case-study design. Informants were determined through non-probability purposive sampling, comprising the madrasah principal as the primary informant, the deputy head of student affairs as the second informant, and students as the third informant, based on their relevance to the research focus. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and verification. The validity of the data was established through source and method triangulation. The findings show that the Tazkiyatun Nafs policy is implemented in a planned and collaborative manner through the habituation of worship, classical text study (kajian kitab kuning), and integrated religious activities within the madrasah's programs. This policy has a positive impact on improving students' discipline, religious awareness, and worship habits, supported by cooperation between teachers and the student council (OSIS) and by teachers' exemplary conduct. Although obstacles such as students' tardiness and schedule clashes with pesantren activities were found, these were addressed through a persuasive approach and continuous guidance.
