Post-Publication Discussion Policy

1. Policy Statement

J-EBI (Jurnal Ekonomi dan Bisnis Islam), published by Institut Agama Islam Sufyan Tsauri Majenang (INSIMA), supports constructive scholarly discussion and critical engagement with research published in the journal. The journal recognizes that post-publication discussion contributes to the development of academic knowledge, the verification of research findings, and the improvement of scholarly practices in Islamic economics and business.

J-EBI welcomes substantive, evidence-based comments on published articles, including discussions of research methods, data interpretation, theoretical arguments, findings, and their implications. All post-publication discussions must be conducted professionally, respectfully, and in accordance with academic integrity and publication ethics.

2. Scope of Post-Publication Discussion

Post-publication discussion may address:

  • Theoretical or conceptual issues relevant to a published article.

  • Research design, methodology, data analysis, and interpretation of findings.

  • The validity, reliability, and reproducibility of research results.

  • The contribution, implications, and limitations of published research.

  • Errors, inconsistencies, or ambiguities that may affect the interpretation of an article.

  • Ethical concerns or potential research misconduct supported by relevant evidence.

  • New evidence or scholarly perspectives that contribute to further understanding of the published work.

Comments should provide a clear scholarly contribution and should not be used for personal attacks, promotional purposes, or disputes unrelated to the academic content of the publication.

3. Submission of Comments

Readers, researchers, and other interested parties may submit comments concerning articles published in J-EBI through the journal's official editorial communication channels.

Submissions should include:

  1. The title and bibliographic details of the article being discussed.

  2. The name and institutional affiliation of the commenter, where applicable.

  3. A clear explanation of the issue or argument being raised.

  4. Relevant evidence, references, or supporting documentation.

  5. A statement identifying any potential conflicts of interest related to the discussion.

Comments must be original, appropriately referenced, and written in a professional academic style. The editorial team may request clarification or revision before considering a submission for publication.

4. Editorial Assessment

All submitted comments are subject to editorial assessment before publication. The editorial team evaluates whether a comment is relevant to the journal's scope, provides a meaningful scholarly contribution, is supported by evidence, and complies with the journal's ethical standards.

The editor may:

  • Accept a comment for publication.

  • Request revisions or additional supporting evidence.

  • Consult independent experts when the comment raises substantial technical or methodological concerns.

  • Invite the original article's authors to respond.

  • Decline a comment that is unsupported, irrelevant, defamatory, repetitive, or inconsistent with the journal's publication policies.

Where necessary, the editor may use external peer review to assess the scholarly merit of a substantive or technically complex discussion.

5. Right of Response

When a comment raises substantive questions about a published article, J-EBI may invite the original author or authors to provide a response. The response should address the issues raised objectively, refer to relevant evidence, and maintain a professional academic tone.

The journal aims to provide a fair opportunity for meaningful scholarly exchange. However, the publication of a response is subject to editorial assessment and does not guarantee acceptance.

Comments and responses may be published together or linked to the original article to facilitate transparent discussion and allow readers to understand different scholarly perspectives.

6. Ethical Standards and Conflicts of Interest

All participants in post-publication discussion must comply with the journal's publication ethics requirements. Comments and responses must not contain plagiarism, fabricated evidence, misleading claims, personal attacks, or unsupported allegations of misconduct.

Authors of comments and responses must disclose relevant conflicts of interest. Editors involved in assessing a discussion must manage any competing interests that could compromise impartiality.

Concerns about potential research misconduct will be handled under J-EBI's Allegation of Research Misconduct Policy. Such concerns will be assessed on the basis of evidence and will not automatically be treated as established misconduct.

7. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions

Post-publication discussion may reveal errors or concerns that require formal editorial action. Where appropriate, J-EBI may initiate a review of the published article and take action in accordance with its Correction, Retraction, and Withdrawal Policy.

Depending on the findings, the journal may:

  • Publish a correction when an error can be rectified without undermining the overall reliability of the article.

  • Publish an expression of concern when credible issues remain unresolved.

  • Retract an article when its findings are unreliable or serious ethical violations justify retraction.

The publication of a comment or response does not, by itself, establish that the original article is invalid. Decisions about corrections or retractions will be based on an appropriate assessment of the evidence.

8. Confidentiality and Editorial Independence

J-EBI will handle submitted comments, responses, and related correspondence in accordance with its confidentiality requirements. Personal information and confidential materials will be shared only as necessary for editorial assessment and publication, subject to applicable legal and ethical obligations.

Editorial decisions concerning post-publication discussion will be based on scholarly merit, relevance, evidence, and compliance with publication ethics. The journal's ownership or other institutional interests must not improperly influence these decisions.

9. Publication and Accessibility

Accepted comments and responses may be published on the journal's website and linked to the article under discussion, where technically and editorially appropriate. Published discussions will form part of the journal's scholarly record and will be made accessible in accordance with J-EBI's open access and licensing policies.

The journal may decline to publish comments that do not meet its standards or that duplicate existing discussion without providing a meaningful additional contribution.

10. Policy Review

J-EBI may revise this policy as necessary to maintain responsible, transparent, and constructive scholarly communication. This policy should be read alongside the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement, Allegation of Research Misconduct Policy, Plagiarism Policy, and Correction, Retraction, and Withdrawal Policy.
