Peer Review Process
1. Review Policy
Jurnal Ekonomi dan Bisnis Islam (JEBI) applies a double-blind peer review process to ensure the objectivity, fairness, confidentiality, and academic quality of published articles. Under this system, the identities of authors are concealed from reviewers, and the identities of reviewers are concealed from authors throughout the review process.
All submitted manuscripts are evaluated based on their originality, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, theoretical contribution, methodological rigor, quality of analysis, clarity of presentation, and potential contribution to the development of Islamic economics and business scholarship.
2. Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial assessment by the editorial team to determine its suitability for further consideration. The screening process examines the manuscript's alignment with the journal's focus and scope, compliance with the author guidelines, originality, completeness, and adherence to publication ethics requirements.
Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic requirements may be returned to the authors for technical revision or rejected without external review. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are forwarded to the peer review stage.
3. Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are reviewed by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the submission.
To maintain the double-blind review process, the journal takes reasonable measures to remove identifying information from the manuscript before it is sent to reviewers. Authors are also required to ensure that their submissions do not contain information that directly reveals their identities in the main manuscript.
Reviewers are selected based on their academic expertise, research experience, and ability to evaluate the manuscript objectively. Reviewers must not have conflicts of interest that could compromise their impartiality.
4. Review Criteria
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts according to the following criteria:
-
Originality and novelty: The extent to which the manuscript presents original findings, ideas, or contributions to existing scholarship.
-
Relevance and scope: The manuscript's relevance to Islamic economics, Islamic business, and the journal's stated focus and scope.
-
Theoretical foundation: The adequacy of the literature review, theoretical framework, and engagement with relevant scholarly work.
-
Methodological rigor: The appropriateness, transparency, and rigor of the research design, data collection, and analytical procedures.
-
Results and discussion: The clarity, validity, and significance of the findings, including their relationship to the research questions and existing literature.
-
Academic writing and presentation: The manuscript's organization, clarity, language accuracy, and compliance with the journal's author guidelines.
-
Ethical compliance: The adequacy of ethical disclosures, research integrity, citation practices, and other relevant publication ethics requirements.
5. Review Recommendations
After evaluating a manuscript, reviewers provide comments and one of the following recommendations:
-
Accept: The manuscript is suitable for publication without substantial revision.
-
Minor Revision: The manuscript requires limited corrections or improvements before a final decision.
-
Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revision and may need further review before a decision can be made.
-
Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal's publication standards or is unsuitable for publication.
Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, evidence-based feedback to help the editor make an informed decision and, where appropriate, help authors improve their manuscripts.
6. Editorial Decision
The editor considers the reviewers' reports, the manuscript's scholarly quality, and the journal's publication standards when making an editorial decision. The editor may accept the manuscript, request minor or major revisions, reject the manuscript, or seek additional expert opinions when necessary.
The final decision rests with the editor and is not determined solely by a single reviewer's recommendation. The journal reserves the right to reject a manuscript when its quality, originality, ethical compliance, or relevance does not meet the required standards.
7. Revision and Re-evaluation
Authors required to revise their manuscripts must submit a revised version together with a point-by-point response explaining how each reviewer comment has been addressed. If a comment is not adopted, the authors should provide a clear academic justification.
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation, particularly when major revisions have been requested. The editor will assess the revised manuscript and determine whether further revision is necessary or whether a final decision can be made.
8. Confidentiality and Ethical Responsibilities
All manuscripts submitted for review are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not disclose, distribute, use, or reproduce unpublished information from a manuscript without appropriate authorization.
Reviewers must provide objective and professional assessments and disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Editors are responsible for protecting the confidentiality of submissions, managing conflicts of interest, and ensuring that editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit.
Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to comply with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable research integrity standards.
9. Review Timeline
JEBI endeavors to conduct the peer review process efficiently while maintaining the quality and integrity of editorial evaluation. The duration of review may vary depending on reviewer availability, the complexity of the manuscript, and the extent of revisions required.
Authors will be informed of editorial decisions and any subsequent requirements through the journal's online submission system or official communication channels.
10. Final Publication Decision
A manuscript may be accepted for publication only after the editorial team is satisfied that it meets the journal's academic, technical, and ethical requirements. Acceptance is subject to completion of any required revisions and compliance with the journal's publication procedures.
The implementation of this peer review policy is intended to maintain transparency, academic integrity, and the quality of research published in Jurnal Ekonomi dan Bisnis Islam (JEBI).
